Our Journey to Simply Paws® Natural Cat Litter System

2 1/2 years ago Kevin and I formed Simply Paws Design, LLC, a start-up with a mission of creating healthy, innovative and eco-friendly pet products.

Our journey began a few years ago after rescuing a little kitten at Camp Ripley. We were excited for a new kitten to join our family of two boys, two dogs, and a fish, but, I wasn’t thrilled about maintaining a litter box- the smell, the dust and the tracked litter.  As a life-long cat owner, I was all too familiar, and I thought there had to be a better solution. That began the search. We tried eco-friendly clumpable litter, paper and wood pellet litter, and even an automatic litter box, but they all still required so much maintenance. They still tracked, they were dusty, and they emitted so much odor.  No matter how much I cleaned out the box and swept the floors, I felt like all our guests knew we had a cat from the moment they stepped into our home.

Eventually, we found a completely different style of cat litter and litter box, a filtering system, which had significantly less odor, and less mess, but it was not earth friendly, it was expensive, as it required the use of litter pellets AND pads, the box wasn’t easy to clean, and our 20 pound cat could barely fit in it and move around. After some complaining to Kevin about the lack of availability of a really great cat litter system that was loved by cats and their owners, was healthy and safe for cats, kittens, people and the planet, I shared my vision for this system, and he responded with, “Why don’t you do something about it?” So, we did!

After a lot of research, collaboration with the University of Minnesota and the Agricultural Utilization Research Institute,  AURI, and trials with our ever flexible Ripley, we have filed for patents for an innovative filtering cat litter system that minimizes odor, mess & maintenance, AND is healthy and safe for cats, kittens, people, and the planet!

We are nearing the end of the developmental phase, and are planning to do a Kickstarter Campaign soon.  We are so excited to be able to start talking about Simply Paws® Natural Cat Litter System.  We are collecting emails on our website, and have a Facebook page, Simply Paws @Simply Paws Design, so we can communicate updates, including information on our Kickstarter Campaign.
